Books- An Endangered Species?
Interestingly, books have managed to survive an era which has repleted us with the cutting-edge world of the Internet and television. However, by examining books more thoroughly, we will be capable of understanding where their lovely charm lies in.
Printed books are often regarded to be beneficial for not only improving your knowledge and broadening your mind, but also for enhancing your vivid imagination and fantasy. For instance, a colourful description enables you to imagine the characters and a complex plot of any story, which may contribute to the improvement of your creativity and critical thinking skills. Moreover, it might make you have a much more flexible way of thinking. In addition, reading proves to be an immensely effective tool for enriching your vocabulary by making it more sophisticated and it also empowers you to be more grammar-conscious.
On the other hand, if you are constantly watching TV, you only function as a passive viewer who gets a plethora of information and images almost in the twinkling of an eye. It literally means that everything you get from TV is given on the screen and you are not really forced to use your brain very much. Without doubt, the whole society is just dumbing down due to people's fascination of mindless programmes, which definitely do more harm than good.
There is also a grain of truth in that the Internet may also hearten people to read articles, blogs and even some entertaining or educational e-books. However, the most fundamental problem is that you can easily be distracted from reading by infuriating pop-ups and other advertising videos.
All in all, not only are books advantageous for your intellectual skills but they can also fill your heart with passionate love and other emotive feelings. I blindly believe that neither television nor the Internet will ever replace printed books completely in the foreseeable future. Well, what do you think?
